A box gutter is given its name as it is usually “boxed” into the middle or edge of the roof.  The gutter collects the water and disposes of it through the drainpipe.  Box guttering is generally concealed as they are hidden by outside walls that are higher than the edge of the roof tiles or sheeting – that is, you can’t see them when you look at the home, so they are great if you don’t like the look of gutters for whatever reason.

Box gutters should have a minimum fall of 1 : 200

Box guttering need to be made from high quality materials – better than the roof itself where possible, so Zincalume or Colorbond are ideal.

Different colour choices are available but because it is a concealed gutter for the most part, the choice of colour may not be important to you.

A Few Important Things to Remember When Installing Roof Flashing

Your home's roof does a pretty good job of protecting you from the elements. However, when water and moisture wind their way beneath its surface, you can expect structural damage as well as the hefty repair costs involved. In order to prevent water from getting into the roof's interiors, roof flashing should be properly installed. Flashing refers to the strips that are used to cover the intersections between roofs and walls, which are also called headwalls and sidewalls. These intersections are usually the entry point for water.

A ZINCALUME® or COLORBOND® Flashing needs to be installed from the bottom going up and layered in the intersections. This essentially creates a seal against water. If you notice leaks on your roof, it is highly likely that the main cause would be the flashing detail. You might be tempted to reuse the old flashing on your roof. However, old flashing will wear out sooner and you will end up buying and installing flashing quicker than you ought to.

Finally, make sure that you apply the caulking properly to create a tighter seal against water. If you fail to apply the caulking properly, you will notice that it will dry up, crack or crumble soon. If you do notice any of these, make sure that you reapply caulking as soon as possible. Experts also advise that roofs and flashing should be regularly checked for leaks and other issues which can compromise their performance.

If you are planning to replace and install roof flashing, you can purchase from Metal Roofing Online right in the convenience of your home. We offer the lowest prices and guarantee fast delivery for orders. We are a trusted Bluescope steel supplier.
