Zincalume Roofing – Longer Lasting Shelter

It’s easy to assume what Zincalume consists of just from the name itself. Using the same hot dip process for making galvanised steel, the popular alloy-coated steel is formed from 43.5 percent zinc, 55 percent aluminium, and 1.5 percent silicon. This combination is bonded to a mild steel substrate and is considered an excellent type of coating, easily able to withstand harsh industrial, rural, and marine conditions. It is doubly protective, with the zinc doling out sacrificial cut edge protection, and the aluminium, barrier protection. Dealing effectively with these two elements allows Zincalume to provide exceptional anti-corrosion performance. Generally, the traditional zinc-coated galvanised steel is often the more popular choice for roofing, with many people being under the impression that not only is it cheaper, but stronger as well; this, however, is simply a common misconception in the construction industry. According to numerous tests and studies, however, Zincalume roofing actually does a better job than galvanised steel when it comes to desired non-corrosive functions. It is evident that Zincalume roofs have remained in good condition after more than 20 years while galvanised steel ones are already significantly pocked and compromised by red rust. As a matter of fact, the corrosion resistant performance of Zincalume is often compared with that of the much pricier stainless steel and aluminium. Considering this, it’s safe to assume that Zincalume is the most practical option as far as roofing sheets are concerned. With the demand for it, so many construction elements are now available in the material, including guttering, carport kits, fencing, downpipes, nails, etc. Zincalume is a pretty recent innovation, having been introduced into the building products market only in the nineties; however, it immediately showed its promise as a high quality material to work with. These days, builders have long discovered its fine attributes. For starters, it is long-lasting and strong. It is also easy to paint and is capable of superb mark resistance. At the end of a project, the roof looks immaculate without the usual hand marks and boot scuffs. While it’s true that nobody would probably notice the little dings on a roof, these could eventually lead to damage and compromise the integrity of the entire roof. Australia happens to be famous for its diverse geography. Whether situated in salty coastal communities or in another environment such as a dry desert or a cool mountain, Zincalume definitely makes a smart choice for a roofing material.
